Not sure how many layers sandwich building really needs? Enough for balance and contrast, not so many it falls apart — that’s the sweet spot.

How many layers sandwich building actually needs

Every layer should earn its place by adding flavour or texture: a hero filling, cheese, something crunchy, something acidic, a sauce. If a layer does not contribute, it is just adding thickness.

The bite test

A sandwich you cannot comfortably bite through has too many layers. When the fillings squeeze out of the sides on the first bite, the build has failed regardless of how good it looked.

Aim for four or five purposeful layers, each doing a different job — not eight doing the same one.

Structure matters

Order the layers so the sandwich holds: sturdy against the bread, wet in the middle, crunch where it survives.
